7. Mandatory and optional information

Some information may be required to:

  • Create or secure an account
  • Verify authority over a business listing

Listing SG remains responsible for personal data in its possession or under its control, including data processed by a data intermediary on its behalf, subject to the roles allocated under the PDPA.

12. Transfers outside Singapore

Some hosting, cloud, analytics, communication, or payment providers used by Listing SG may process data outside Singapore.

Where personal data is transferred overseas, Listing SG will take appropriate steps to ensure that the recipient provides a standard of protection comparable to that required by the PDPA.

Safeguards may include:

  • Legally enforceable contracts
  • Corporate rules or policies
  • Vendor security assessments
  • Confidentiality requirements
  • Limits on the type and volume of transferred data
  • Access restrictions
  • Encryption
  • Transfer and processing records
  • Other safeguards permitted by Singapore law

The laws of another country may allow governmental or regulatory access under circumstances that differ from Singapore law.

Singapore’s Transfer Limitation Obligation requires organizations transferring personal data overseas to provide protection comparable to the PDPA.

13. Data security

Listing SG will implement reasonable security arrangements appropriate to the nature of the information and the potential harm that could result from a breach.

Measures may include:

  • HTTPS encryption
  • Encrypted transmission

  • Reporting suspected unauthorized access promptly

The PDPA requires reasonable security arrangements to prevent unauthorized access, collection, use, disclosure, copying, modification, disposal, and loss of storage media containing personal data.

Notifications will be made within the periods required by the PDPA and applicable regulations.

Users should report suspected account compromise or unintended disclosure to our Data Protection Officer promptly. The PDPA contains specific assessment and notification duties for notifiable breaches.

15. Retention of personal data

Listing SG retains personal data only for as long as reasonably necessary for the original purpose or another permitted legal or business purpose.

Retention periods may depend on:

  • The duration of an account
  • The publication period of a listing

  • Payment and invoice record requirements
  • Chargeback and dispute periods
  • Fraud-prevention needs

  • Backup copies retained until overwritten during the normal backup cycle

When personal data is no longer required, Listing SG may securely delete, destroy, anonymize, or de-identify it.

Singapore law does not prescribe one universal retention period for all personal data. Instead, organizations must stop retaining identifiable information when its purpose is no longer served and retention is no longer needed for legal or business purposes.

16. Account and listing closure

Closing an account or removing a listing does not necessarily result in immediate deletion of every related record.

After closure or removal:

  • Public listing information may be removed from active display
  • Account data may be deleted, anonymized, or restricted
  • Transaction and invoice records may be retained
  • Fraud, security, and dispute records may be retained
  • Information may remain temporarily in backups

Listing SG will not retain identifiable personal data for longer than reasonably necessary for an applicable legal or business purpose.

  • Be disclosed to another organization

Users and business representatives are responsible for:

  • Providing accurate information
  • Updating changes promptly
  • Reviewing published listing details
  • Correcting outdated contact information
  • Ensuring that information submitted about another person is accurate and authorized

We may request verification before making changes affecting ownership, security, payments, or control of an account or listing.

The PDPA contains an Accuracy Obligation where personal data is used for decisions affecting an individual or disclosed to another organisation.

18. Access and correction rights

Subject to exceptions under the PDPA, you may request:

  • Access to personal data held about you
  • Information about how your personal data has been used or disclosed within the applicable statutory period
  • Correction of an error or omission in your personal data

Listing SG may request information required to verify:

  • Your identity
  • The relevant account or listing
  • Your authority to represent a business
  • The scope of the request

We may charge a reasonable fee for an access request where permitted. Where a fee applies, we will provide a written estimate before processing the request.

We may decline, limit, or redact a response where permitted by law, including where disclosure could:

  • Reveal another person’s personal data
  • Threaten another person’s safety
  • Reveal confidential commercial information
  • Breach legal privilege
  • Affect an investigation
  • Be contrary to national interest
  • Fall within another statutory exception

Where a valid correction is made, we may send the corrected information to organizations to which it was previously disclosed, where required by the PDPA.

Singapore’s current individual rights under the PDPA primarily include access and correction, subject to statutory exceptions.

19. Withdrawal of consent and deletion requests

You may withdraw consent for specified collection, use, or disclosure of personal data by giving reasonable notice.

Listing SG will:

  • Explain the likely consequences where appropriate
  • Process the withdrawal within a reasonable period
  • Stop the relevant processing unless continued processing is permitted or required by law
  • Inform relevant service providers where necessary

The PDPA does not provide an unrestricted general right to erasure equivalent to the European Union’s “right to be forgotten”.

You may nevertheless request account closure or deletion of information that is no longer required. Listing SG may retain information where necessary for:

  • Tax and accounting records
  • Legal obligations
  • Fraud prevention
  • Security investigations
  • Contractual enforcement
  • Dispute resolution
  • Legal claims
  • Backup cycles
  • Other permitted business purposes

20. Data portability

Singapore’s PDPA contains a framework for a Data Portability Obligation. However, the obligation will take effect only when the relevant regulations are issued and brought into force.

Until then, Listing SG does not represent data portability as a currently enforceable statutory right.

Where feasible, we may voluntarily provide certain account or listing information in an available format, subject to:

  • Identity verification
  • Security requirements
  • Technical availability
  • Third-party rights
  • Legal restrictions
  • Protection of proprietary or internally generated information

The inclusion of data portability in the Act should not be confused with its commencement as an active obligation.

21. Direct marketing and Do Not Call requirements

You may ask Listing SG to stop using your personal data for direct marketing at any time.

You may do so by:

  • Selecting an unsubscribe link
  • Updating available account preferences
  • Contacting Listing SG

We may retain limited suppression information, such as your email address and opt-out status, to ensure that your preference continues to be respected.

Where Listing SG sends specified marketing messages to a Singapore telephone number, we will comply with applicable Do Not Call requirements. This may include:

  • Checking the relevant Do Not Call Register where required
  • Obtaining clear consent where applicable
  • Providing identifying and contact information
  • Not concealing the originating telephone number
  • Respecting withdrawal of consent

The Do Not Call rules apply to specified marketing messages sent by voice call, text message, or fax to Singapore telephone numbers, subject to statutory exceptions.

Essential messages concerning an active listing, payment, account security, legal notice, or requested support are not treated as promotional messages merely because they are sent to a customer.

22. Third-party websites and embedded services

Listing SG may contain:

  • Links to business websites
  • Social-media links
  • Maps
  • Videos
  • Payment interfaces
  • Booking links

These providers may independently collect personal data or place cookies.

Listing SG does not control the privacy practices of independent third parties. You should review their privacy policies before providing personal data or using their services.

23. Automated processing and platform tools

Listing SG may use automated tools to support:

  • Spam detection
  • Fraud prevention
  • Security monitoring
  • Duplicate-listing detection
  • Listing categorization
  • Search relevance
  • Review moderation
  • Content flagging
  • Recommendations
  • Promotional placement
  • Website analytics

Automated tools may affect how a listing is:

  • Categorized
  • Ordered
  • Recommended
  • Flagged
  • Moderated
  • Displayed

Listing SG does not ordinarily make decisions that produce significant legal or similarly significant effects solely through automated processing.

Where automated systems materially affect a listing or account, users may contact us to request review, subject to our Terms and Conditions and applicable law.

24. Children’s personal data

Listing SG is a general business directory and is not designed primarily for children.

Individuals under 13 should not create an account or submit personal data without the involvement of a parent or legal guardian.

If we become aware that a child’s personal data was collected inappropriately, we will review the information and take reasonable steps to remove or restrict it where required.

  • New paid listing services

  • Checkout
  • A listing-management interface
  • Another appropriate communication method

Where new consent is required, continued website use alone will not automatically be treated as consent.

27. Governing language

Unless otherwise stated, the English version will govern in the event of an inconsistency, subject to applicable Singapore law.
